Our History

In the summer of 2004, a glaring absence of radio programming for the dense Bangladeshi Community in the New York City area was recognized. With the goal of uniting the Bangladeshi’s in the region, Bangla Radio New York was established.

July 3rd, 2004 witnessed the premier of Bangla Radio’s first episode, as a one hour program playing on AM 620 Sporting News Radio every Saturday and Sunday night at 9PM. The radio show quickly became extremely popular amongst the community, but a larger goal was kept in mind – airing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week reaching all sorts of South Asians throughout the nation.

Within a year and a half of the initial transmission, the visionaries of Bangla Radio approached the GlobeCast Satellite Network and struck a deal for a 24 hour station on their Satellite broadcast – thus came the establishment of SANM® Radio, the South Asian Network for Music, as owned and operated by Bangla Radio, LLC.

Broadcasting nationwide through satellite and over the Internet, SANM® Radio not only caters to the desires of the Bangladeshi community, but the Indian and Pakistani communities as well.

Entering our third year of broadcast through the legacy of Bangla Radio New York as of July 2006 SANM® Radio averages 1,000 hits a day on our website, and is available to thousands of South Asian subscribers across the United States on the GlobeCast Satellite Network. Our programming reaches people from all cultures from the South Asian region.
